Certification against ISO/IEC 42001 must be issued by a certification body; independent lead auditors typically run internal audits and readiness reviews before the formal stage 1 and stage 2 audits. Accreditation claims here are checked against national accreditation body registers.
A certification body. Accreditation for ISO/IEC 42001 from a national accreditation body (UKAS, DAkkS, ANAB, COFRAC and their IAF peers) is not legally required, but unaccredited certificates carry little weight with enterprise procurement, so treat accreditation as the baseline. Consultants and independent lead auditors prepare you for the audit; they do not certify. Accreditation claims on this page are checked against the accreditation body's public register.
How much does an ISO 42001 certification audit cost?
Certification bodies quote per audit-day based on headcount and the number of AI systems in scope, and the three-year cycle — initial stage 1 and stage 2 audits, then two annual surveillance audits — matters more than the initial fee. Bodies listed here rarely publish bands, so ask each for the full-cycle price and for the assigned auditor's ISO/IEC 42001 experience.
Can the same firm implement and audit my AIMS?
No. Accredited certification bodies are barred from certifying a management system they helped build (an independence requirement under ISO/IEC 17021-1). Use separate providers for implementation and certification, and disclose any prior consulting relationship to the certification body.
