BSI (British Standards Institution)

BSI is the UK's national standards body, incorporated by Royal Charter, with a history going back to 1901. For AI compliance it operates as an accredited certification body for ISO/IEC 42001: the UKAS register of AI management system certification bodies lists BSI Assurance UK Ltd under accreditation number 0003, and UKAS announced BSI as the first certification body it accredited for the standard. BSI's own press release adds RvA accreditation in the Netherlands and ANAB accreditation in the United States, and describes itself as the first certification body holding all three for ISO/IEC 42001. Organisations typically engage BSI when a customer, regulator or board wants an accredited 42001 certificate rather than a self-declared claim of conformity. The AI services evidenced on its site are certification audits, a pre-certification assessment that checks readiness ahead of the formal audit, and a training catalogue covering the standard's requirements, implementation, internal auditor, lead implementer, lead auditor and its 38 AI controls, delivered live online, in person or on demand.
