DNV

DNV is an Oslo-headquartered assurance and risk management company that has operated since 1864 and now works in more than 100 countries. Within its certification business it audits AI management systems against ISO/IEC 42001, and in December 2024 it announced accreditation from the Dutch accreditation body RvA for that standard, describing itself as among the first certification bodies accredited globally. Its first accredited certificate went to Cognizant, and a further accredited certificate was issued to HONOR in Greater China in March 2025. A typical engagement begins once an organization has built its AI management system: DNV maps an eight-step route that runs from buying the standard through to the certification audit itself, conducted under its Risk Based Certification methodology. Because it acts as a third-party certification body, DNV states that it cannot implement a client's management system, instead offering gap analysis, self-assessment tools and a training portfolio spanning an introductory requirements course, an internal auditor course and a 40-hour auditor/lead auditor course, delivered as public sessions or in-house at a client's premises.
